Today, Sociality Squared celebrates its 9th birthday, and it’s the perfect time to reflect on where we have been and where we are going. One thing I love about social media is that it connects people together. I’ve always been intrigued by how people come into our lives, and often try to trace back when the first domino started falling for people I know.
The Power of Connecting
Take Nasser Jab, who grew up in the Middle East and now co-owns and operates a food company in New York City called Komeeda. He’s speaking with me at SXSW in a few short weeks on our panel Tomorrow’s Perfect Food Narrative. However, our paths began to cross seven years ago.
In 2012, I was the first person to speak about Pinterest at Social Media Week (SMW) – our social media age is showing today! The day before, at what I’m guessing was another SMW event, I met Alex Rivas (a quick email search refreshed my memory of this timing!). The short version of the story is that Alex introduced me the CMO of Popcorn, Indiana who as a client introduced me to Bitten, a thought-provoking food conference. I became a fan of it as I’m prone to do and saw Nasser speak about his refugee dinner series at Bitten in 2017. Last year, Nasser and I crossed paths again at SXSW. He was kind enough to listen to my panel The Era of Camera-First Food, which inspired a pivot for his company’s social media marketing. He also came up to me not long after and said, “I want to be on your panel.” And as the saying goes, the rest is history.
I also know S2 wouldn’t be what it is without people like you! However you’ve come to know me or Sociality Squared, thank you. Thank you for your support whether you’re on the team, a client, a partner, considering working with us (we hope you do!), a friend, or reader. I hope we have the opportunity to figure out how our paths first crossed, and to co-conspire on what lies ahead.
We’re giving you a taste of what’s to come with today’s graphic. If you’re not already, subscribe to our S2xAccess newsletter so you can be a part of Sociality Squared’s story.
Up, up, and away!
